Oberto and Circle K Partner with Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross
Scott Speed to Pilot No. 41 Oberto Circle K Beetle GRC for 2017 Red Bull Global Rallycross Season
Circle K Convenience Stores and Oberto All Natural Beef Jerky are teaming up with Scott Speed for the 2017 Red Bull Global Rallycross (GRC) season. Circle K and Oberto will take over branding of Speed’s Volkswagen Beetle GRC for six of eight race weekends as the American driver seeks a third consecutive championship with the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team (VARX).
Seattle-founded Oberto All Natural Beef Jerky strongly supports living the active lifestyle embodied by extreme sport athletes, making Speed an instinctive fit for the brand.
“Joining Scott and the VARX team was an easy decision for us,” said Oberto President and CEO Tom Hernquist. “Scott is an amazing athlete, winning back to back GRC championships and then spending his offseason competing in triathlons and running Race of Champions – we can’t wait to join the team and chase that third championship.”
In addition to his back-to-back championships, Speed has achieved 11 wins and 20 podium finishes from 42 series starts since 2014. The 34-year-old boasts one of the most diverse backgrounds in racing, including stints in IndyCar, Formula E, NASCAR and Formula One.
“I’m psyched about our plans for the 2017 season,” said Speed. “I had so much fun representing the Oberto Circle K team in Seattle last year, and they were a large part of helping us clinch our second championship. We’re putting in a ton of hard work to come back strong this year and keep our streak alive, and since ‘you get what you put in’ – we’re looking for a huge year.”
“We’re excited to welcome Oberto and Circle K as primary sponsors for Scott’s VW Beetle GRC,” said team owner Michael Andretti. “We’ve seen some great initial success with Oberto as a partner in 2016, and I have no doubt that Scott and the VARX team will continue the momentum into this coming season.”
The 2017 Red Bull Global Rallycross championship battle begins April 29-30 with an event in Memphis, Tennessee. The southern season opener will be the first of eight GRC race weekends spanning across North America and broadcast on NBC.
